I was going to post a generic intro to gratitude for my first post, then I started gathering ideas for topics related to gratitude, testing out different ways of acting grateful and incorporating it into my life and I noticed a massive change in my world while I was doing so.
Over the last few years I have included gratitude into my life with random entries into a journal and a funny ritual sometimes in the car, but the act of focusing on gratitude over the last few weeks has kick started big changes in my life. Now I am even more convinced that everybody should be doing this! So now I am going to share that story...
It’s amazing how manifesting works, if you tell the universe what you want and you truly believe you can have it, the universe will deliver it to you, sometimes in unexpected ways. The moment I started thinking about this blog in a real way: gathering blog topics, planning the potential growth, creating social media platforms, and talking to those I love and trust, was the moment the universe started sending me exactly what I needed to fill in the gaps. All of a sudden there were magazine articles in front of me about gratitude, books, TV shows, songs, people in conversation! It was amazing. Where was all of this before? I took the first step and started a temporary trial of a blog site and the universe said, ‘OK, this is what you want? Here it is.’
In my bombardment with all things gratitude my life became clearer. After a two-year attempt to save money for a house, putting in two offers on different homes, and seeing MANY houses, my husband and I had an epiphany that we are not house people. Not only do we not want to put the money up front for the house, but we do not want to put the money in to keep it up. We are unskilled workers when it comes to home repair and we would much prefer to call maintenance when every little thing goes wrong. On top of that, the apartment we could get for the price of a mortgage will be smaller, but much more fabulous and in a neighborhood we love.
After making gratitude a regular part of my daily life:
1. We paid off our credit card
2. Found an apartment in a part of town we have always wanted to live, but didn’t think we could
3. Enjoyed the freedom of living by ourselves
4. Made a lovely home for ourselves in a neighborhood filled with others our age
5. Both got raises
All of this would have been difficult to impossible if we had still been under the misconception that we needed to buy a house. Through the process of regularly recognizing what it is we are grateful for, we discovered our true desires and the things that make us happy as human beings, down to the core and were able to focus our energy what really makes us glow on the inside.
Let me note I am not a professional in gratitude by any means, I see gratitude like yoga or meditation, it’s a practice and I am just practicing. Please come practice with me on this journey of gratitude, it could quickly change your life as it has mine. Go to Grateful Updates above to receive regular updates!
