We have all kinds of little reminders in our lives. My wedding ring reminds me of how much my husband loves me. Every time I see chicken picatta on a menu I think of my mom and all of the fantastic meals she has made me. MAC’s Girl About Town hot pink lipstick reminds me of how I am a powerful woman who can do ANYTHING! Why does a lipstick hold this power? Because I gave it this power!
So how do you get a gratitude reminder? You merely assign this value to anything you decide. I, for example, decided my red Buddha bracelet would be my gratitude token. Every time I wear it and look at it I try to think of something I am grateful for. To be perfectly honest, this bracelet started as a “try not to want to kill anybody today” bracelet and as I matured and introduced more positivity into my life it slowly morphed into a gratitude pendant.
So what do you choose as your token? I chose a piece of jewelry because it’s wearable and easily in sight. You could do the same or you could go in a totally different direction. Every time your cell phone chimes to alert you of a new text or e-mail, think of a gratitude. Every time you see “gluten free” think of a gratitude. Every time you wash your hands think of a gratitude. Every time you see a classic paper Starbucks cup think of a gratitude.
The only way any of these things will have any power will be if you give it power. An easy way to do this would be to challenge yourself to look for you token for a week straight. You might notice, if you tell the universe you are looking for Starbucks cups they will turn up everywhere! Every time you find one, what is the first thing you think of that you are grateful for?
Seems easy doesn’t it? Try it this week and let me know how it went by commenting below.
