If you have 5 minutes you can really dig into your feelings and determine all of the intricacies of it. If you do this on a regular basis you be able to notice the subtle changes of your self.
1. Find a Comfortable Seat
This might be a spot on the floor, a comfy pillow, a stiff chair or right in your bed.
2. Settle In
Take a couple deep breaths, close your eyes, and settle into your body and a comfortable seat.
3. Notice your Mind & Body
If this is day one or if you recently started this practice just start by noticing your body and how it feels. Is it laborious to take deep breaths? Is the skin on your hands dry and scratchy? Do you feel any tightness or pains? Or do you feel a lack of pain or tightness and you feel limber and light?
Next, move onto your mind. Is your mind racing? Are you able to focus easily on your breaths? Are you groggy and unable to focus?
4. Notice the Changes
As you do this more and more you will be able to figure out what feels normal for your body and then more easily determine when something changes. You can then ask yourself, what made my body change like this? Is it lack of sleep? Are you dehydrated? Are you hungry? Did you eat something that did not agree with your body? Did you push your body too hard?
If your body is feeling better than normal, be appreciative of that fact! Is a pain that was there yesterday not there today? Be grateful!
The more acutely aware of your body you are the more you will be able to appreciate the small changes.
5. Rinse and Repeat
Do this daily. You can find 5 minutes in your day to take to yourself whether it be in the morning, middle of the day, or before bed. The more you do this practice, the more in tune you will be with your body and mind and the more you will be able to notice those little changes and then make little lifestyle changes to get your body and mind in better shape.
Do you have any rituals that keep you in tune with your body? What are they? Comment below!
