If you just found by blog, Welcome! This is a small corner of the internet where we like to keep it positive, stay in the now, and recognize the wonder and the glory around us. Today there seemed to be a running theme throughout my day, I am so happy to have these people in my life. When I was getting ready for work and watching YouTube videos, I thought, I am so glad I get to interact virtually with these incredibly positive people. It just kept popping up, in my morning meeting a topic came up that made me think I was so grateful I had my husband in my life.
As we live in a culture where enough is never enough, I started to think about all of the people in my life that keep me positive, happy, in a dream world, and full of joy. This is what I determined.
Your family can be blood relatives or they could be those great friends you would take a bullet for, but it does not necessarily include every blood relative. Think about the uncle who is always negative, thinks the world is out to get him, puts down women and other groups. You do not have to go out of your way to include this person in your life. I have one goal in my life and that is to be happy. If somebody in my life doesn't align with that goal then they may not have a very big role in my life and that's OK.
This can include friends from school, work or other places, but the same goes for friends as goes for family. If you have friends in your life who do not serve you, do not make you better, do not challenge you, do not bring joy to your life then you might consider dropping them. Every friendship has it's ups and downs. Every good friend will challenge you from time to time and being able to bounce back after that is one of the keys to a good friendship, so don't mistake one argument as somebody who is bringing you down. If that person otherwise supports you, wants the best for you, allows you to and encourages you to follow your dreams then they are certainly somebody you should spend as much time with as possible.
Mentors do not need to be official relationships. You could consider your parents your mentors, younger or older siblings, neighbors, your friendly neighborhood bartender. My idea of a mentor is any person who is interested in what your goals are and helps you achieve them. They might be there as a sounding board when it's go time to make a decision either professionally or in your private life. They might also be that person who helps you decide what your next step in life is going to be and actually gives you actionable steps to get there. It is usually a mutual relationship though. As much as the mentee gets out of the relationship, the mentor does as well. It is an incredibly fulfilling feeling to help somebody succeed or achieve in their life.
4. Positive Pop Culture
I used to have cable. I used to watch the news every day before work. I used to go on news websites between (OK and sometimes during) phone calls at work. Man it was depressing. The doom and the gloom of it all. I felt like during college my days were filled with insightful and thought provoking conversations. I constantly felt like I was growing and learning. When I graduated it seemed my only source of learning was the news and man it was depressing.
When my husband and I moved into our new apartment we did not get cable. I only watch Netflix, HBO GO, and YouTube. This way I can choose what types of information I am consuming.
This is What I like:
5. Reading Material
Whether it's magazines or books you should surround yourself with positivity. With magazines, analyze your feelings and thoughts while reading a magazine. Think about how it makes your feel about yourself. Does it inspire your to be healthier? Does it give you inspiration to put together awesome outfits? Or, does it make you wish your body looks like somebody else's? Does it make you lust after physical items that you could only afford at this very moment by charging it? Let this determine whether you should consider dropping your subscription.
With books, do you learn and grow? Are you inspired to try something new in your life? Do you find yourself quoting the book and getting in thought-provoking conversations with friends about what you read? This is a sure sign that you found an author or a genre that is serving you!
6. Healthy Food
One way to show your body that you are grateful for it is to treat it that way! By this I mean to feed it healthy and nutritious foods. Foods that are one step from the Earth are best, I'm talking about low or no processed foods like fruits, vegetables, eggs, and grains. If there are A. no ingredients on the label (like apples) B. Only ingredients you can draw a picture of. You will feel a noticeable difference in your body after just a couple days of eating healthily. Helping your body physically feel good will also improve your mood.
7. Gratitude Journal
Personally I need Gratitude Journals all around my life. I have a physical book sitting next to my bed with a pen. I also use a weekly planner at work that I write in every morning before I really dive in. Then I also use Instagram as a Gratitude Journal snapping pics of things that give me joy. It's nice to be able to scroll through my feed and see all of the things that at one point made me feel tingly inside. You can follow me on Instagram @KatePSierra
I'd be interested to hear what you do to surround yourself with positivity. What do you do? Comment below!
